SUNDAY SEPTEMBER 9 at Bartram’s Garden
10 am – 4 pm  Annual Fall Plant Sale – all day long!  Come learn what you should be planting in the fall so as to encourage spring pollinators.  Bartram’s Gift Shop and the Green Room will be open for your enjoyment.  Buy local at the UNI Farmstand!

10 am – 2 pm Family Discovery Day Visit our science stations, make a beeswax candle, build your own bee costume and march in the Be-a-Bee Parade!

10:30 am How to Brew Honey Beer at Home: Getting Started, with Jimmy McMillan, co-owner of Barry’s Home Brew in Philadelphia.  (stick around for the beer tasting in the afternoon)!

10:30 am Honey Extraction How do you get the honey from the hive to the jar?

11:00 am Cooking with Honey demonstrated by Pennsylvania’s Honey Queen Jessica Long and Bartram’s own Leslie Gale.  Simple recipes you can take home; see, taste, cook!

11:15 am Guided Tour of Bartram House ($12 adults; $10 students & seniors)

11:30 am Be-A-Bee Pageant and performance of “Land on Me“, an audience participation event

Noon Sample some mead courtesy of Stonekeep Meadery, Pennsylvania’s only meadery!  Try Little Baby’s Ice Cream made with local honey.  Bring a picnic lunch if you like or see what’s cookin’ at Tony’s Lunch Cart!

12:15 pm Guided Tour of Bartram House ($12 adults; $10 students & seniors)

12:30 pm Open Hive Talk See what goes on inside a real live bee hive, described by an experienced beekeeper.  Can you find the queen?  Meet at the Green Room and take the short walk together, past the farm out to the hive.

1:00 pm  Philadelphia Bees’ Stake in Pollination – Stephanie Wilson, University of Pennsylvania, Morris Arboretum Intern

1:00 pm  UNI Farm Tour Guided Tour of the Urban Nutrition Initiative (UNI) Farm & Orchard at Bartram’s Garden departs from the Green Room

1:15 pm  Guided Garden Tour departs from the Green Room ($12 adults; $10 students & seniors)
